U.S. Embassy/BAAS Small Grants Programme

The British Association for American Studies (BAAS), supported by the United States Embassy, London, offers small grants for cultural, educational and outreach activities that will foster American Studies and otherwise enhance the understanding of the United States in the United Kingdom. Applications for activities that introduce new audiences to American studies and / or have a focus on children, young people, and disadvantaged communities are welcome. Applicants need to show how they intend to actively promote an understanding of the United States and how they will engage with American studies communities and the wider public. UCL Special Collections Visiting Fellowship

UCL Special Collections Visiting Fellowship University College London is pleased to invite applications for its Special Collections Visiting Fellowship. The Fellowship offers an opportunity to visit UCL to conduct research on a topic centred on the Special Collections holdings. The Fellowship is open to researchers external to UCL in any discipline at all levels from PhD onwards. UCL Special Collections holds one of the foremost university collections of manuscripts, archives and rare books in the UK. They include fine collections of medieval manuscripts and early printed books as well as highly important 19th and 20th century collections of personal papers, archival material, and literature, covering a vast range of subject areas. The successful candidate will spend up to six weeks, or the part-time equivalent, at UCL researching the collections. To help offset the difficulties posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19), HOTCUS welcomes applications from doctoral students and recent PhD graduates not yet in academic employment, as well as those on short-term (less than three years), fractional, or hourly paid contracts for its 2020 Mini Grant scheme. HOTCUS Mini Grants support research in any area of twentieth century United States history (broadly defined).  Applications are invited for £50 to £100 in research expenses.  These expenses could include, but are not limited to the following: • Reproduction of archival materials • Paid subscriptions to research resources • Copies of secondary materials necessary for a particular output (e.g. PhD chapter, journal article) Thanks to the generosity of our members and the absence of a postgraduate paper prize award this year, HOTCUS has over £2500 to distribute. The Peter Parish Memorial Fund aims to help the next generation of British American historians to embark successfully on a career of scholarly historical research into the nineteenth-century United States. The Fund Committee welcomes applications for grants to help with the cost of travel to the United States for the purpose of research or participating in a conference. Funding: The Philip Davies Fellowship at the British Library

This award of £6,000 is offered by the Eccles Centre for American Studies to help support individuals wishing to conduct research on US politics at the British Library for a period of 3 to 6 months. The deadline for applications is 30 September 2021. The Philip Davies Fellowship supports a researcher to conduct bi-partisan research on politics in the United States of America, predominantly using the collections of the British Library but also those of other UK institutions (such as the Rothermere American Institute at the University of Oxford, home of the bulk of the Philip and Rosamund Davies US Elections Campaigns Archive).
