Numerical Analysis Skills for Historians (UCL)

July 11, 2014 @ 10:30 am - 4:30 pm

To conclude its successful series of seminars, the NASH project announces a seminar on relationships between data series (including regression analysis), to be held on Friday 11 July at University College, London. The target audience is early career and postgrad historians: the goal is to introduce concepts and methods, demonstrate their value, encourage historians to take their numerical skills further, and help them interpret academic articles which discuss relationships between data series, for example using regression. The style will be hands-on, using worked examples to understand how different concepts and methods work. This seminar will contain about five hours’ learning, running from 10.30 to no later than 4.30, with a break for lunch.

The presenter will be Professor John MacInnes, University of Edinburgh. Professor MacInnes is the ESRC Strategic Advisor on Quantitative Methods Training, part of the ESRC Quantitative Methods Initiative. He sits on the advisory board of ‘getstats’, the Royal Statistical Society’s Statistical Literacy Campaign, and has created a new statistical literacy course for students from all colleges and years at the University of Edinburgh.

There is no charge for attendance. We are unfortunately not able to help with travel costs or provide refreshments. For bookings contact p.d.atkinson@hud.ac.uk.
