The Department of History, Classics and Archaeology (HCA) invites applications for a Lectureship in American History. We seek to appoint an outstanding scholar working on any aspect of the long twentieth century (c.1870-present). Interest in American engagement in issues stretching beyond the US and/or in teaching American history in a global context is an asset, but we are eager to consider all fields of expertise. Applicants should ideally have completed a doctorate in History, and they should have a research record that shows clear evidence of outstanding potential to contribute to the national and international profile of the Department.

HCA has a longstanding commitment to research-led teaching. Experience of teaching at undergraduate level is expected, but experience in lecturing and conducting seminars at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels is desirable.

The person appointed will engage in scholarly research and publication; take responsibility for organization, supervision and teaching of the broad field of American history at undergraduate and postgraduate level; supervise postgraduate students; and participate in Departmental, School and College administration as required.

Discussion of research and teaching interests should include consideration of how the applicant would strengthen HCA, in relation to bolstering our current profile and/or in adding new dimensions to HCA’s taught programmes and research.

Further Information:

Salary: Grade 7 of the College’s London Pay Scale which is £36,150 rising to £41,318 per annum.

This post is full time, 35 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and open-ended. The salary quoted above is on the College’s London Pay Scale and includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the Greater London area. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of 3 years.
