22nd Annual Conference of the Scottish Association for the Study of America
6 March 2021, Online Conference
The Scottish Association for the Study of America (SASA) was formed in 1999 to encourage the study of North America in Scotland. Due to ongoing concerns over COVID-19, the committee has decided our annual conference will be held virtually this year. The conference will take place on Saturday, 6 March 2021.
The virtual nature of the conference has provided us with an opportunity to adapt our standard format. Instead of traditional 20-minute conference papers, we are asking for brief, 10-minute papers, which will be followed by a discussion. These presentations are meant to be informal, and our aim is to provide a welcoming environment for speakers to get feedback on their projects, or specific aspects of their research they would like to discuss.
SASA recognizes a broad definition of the Americas and includes any topic situated within North, South or Latin America, at any point in history. The intent of the conference is to reflect the range and vitality of American studies and history in Scotland and beyond. As such, there is no particular theme to the conference. Participation is open to all scholars. We particularly encourage proposals from masters and doctoral students. Abstracts are welcome from all disciplines, including history, literature, politics, culture, international relations, transnational studies, religious studies, music, film studies and cognate fields. The conference aims to provide a friendly forum in which postgraduate students, early careers researchers, and academic staff can share and discuss their research.
Please send proposals for individual papers (10 minutes) to the society via email atScotAmStudies@gmail.com. Proposals are due by midnight on 11 January 2021. Please provide a brief CV or a brief bio containing full contact information. Abstracts for paper proposals should not exceed 300 words.
Please email the society with any questions relating to the conference and proposal submission.
