RIGHTS AND JUSTICE IN NIXON’S AMERICA
A one-day conference exploring the pursuit of rights and justice goals in the tumultuous years of the late 1960s and early 1970s to probe the true legacy of Richard Nixon’s America.

Traditionally seen as the onset of a new era of conservatism, retrenchment and repression, the United States of the late 1960s and early 1970s also witnessed the emergence, expansion and internationalisation of many movements for rights and justice.

Papers are invited on the following or related themes:
o Human rights, foreign affairs and international relations
o Civil rights, democracy and injustice
o Sexuality and LGBT rights
o Crime, punishment and origins of the carceral state
o Law and judicial activism
o Fighting for reproductive rights
o Consumers and consumerism
o Environmentalism
o Countercultures
o Welfarism and the end of the Great Society
