Associate Program Officer, Terra Foundation for American Art (Paris)

The Paris Center of the Terra Foundation for American Art seeks to hire an Associate Program Officer.  Part time position (4 days a week) with possibility of full time (5 days a week) pending authorization.

Organization
Headquartered in Chicago, with a satellite office in Paris serving as its centralized European hub, the Terra Foundation for American Art is dedicated to fostering exploration, understanding, and enjoyment of the visual arts of the United States for national and international audiences.  Recognizing the importance of experiencing original works of art, the foundation provides opportunities for interaction and study, beginning with the presentation and growth of its own art collection in Chicago.  To further cross-cultural dialogue on American art, the foundation supports and collaborates on innovative exhibitions, research, and educational programs.

Description of Position
The Associate Academic Program Officer works in close collaboration with the Director of European Academic Programs on the conception, organization, and implementation of scholarly programs at the Terra Foundation’s Centers in Paris and Giverny.  In addition, s/he actively contributes to developing a professional network with other academic partners in Europe and assists in administrative duties related to reporting and evaluating academic programs.
Main areas of responsibility:

  • Programming
    Programs lectures at the Paris Center and Giverny, developing content and coordinating the events; serves as primary contact for co-organizers and participants, evaluates completed events, coordinates publicity for all events with communications team, and participates actively in conference events; contributes to the programming of the Terra Summer Residency at Giverny, participates in events and offers support to fellows and guests.
  • European Partnerships and Outreach
    Identifies and researches institutions and individuals for European collaborations; serves as consultant for visiting scholars supported by the Foundation during their research trips in Europe.
  • Program Evaluation
    Collects data and prepares periodic internal evaluations and reports of academic programs.

Qualifications

  • M.A. required, Ph.D. preferred, minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Specialized knowledge of American art history and/or American Studies.
  • Facility to work in multiple languages; fluency or near-fluency in French and English.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal & organizational skills, flexible, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Availability for travel.
