The University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) provides university-level education through a unique partnership of thirteen colleges and research institutions located throughout the Highlands & Islands.
The Centre for History, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI), seeks to employ a Teaching Assistant on a fixed contract for a maximum of two semesters, both in 2015-16. This will involve leading seminar-style discussions by video-conference with students, sessions which will be taught from a UHI Academic Partner college. You will prepare, administer and assess classes in one or more of the following subject areas: Highlands and Islands, Scottish, British and European history; North American history; Atlantic history. You should expect to teach across a wide chronological and geographical range, although, in 2015-16, most of this teaching will focus on the post-1500 period.
You will be expected to have some previous experience of university-level teaching, to be at postdoctoral level, and will be paid at an hourly rate, this covering preparation, lecturing, marking and administration on the range of relevant modules.
Candidate Requirements
The minimum requirements for selection are as follows:
· postgraduate qualification in History, preferably a PhD
· a good knowledge of the field and experience in teaching
· experience of/or willingness to develop a wide range of teaching and assessment methods
UHI (www.uhi.ac.uk) comprises a network of academic partner colleges across the north and west of Scotland, and, thus, although postholders will normally teach by video-conference from one of the locations in question, they will be required, from time to time, to attend meetings at the Centre’s host college in Dornoch.
Interviews will be held on Tuesday 7 July 2015.
