Applications are invited for two full-time, fixed-term (three years) Lectureships in Modern and Contemporary Literature in the Department of English and Humanities. These posts are offered in order to replace two staff members during a period of grant-funded leave.

You will be involved in our lively research community and will make a contribution to the Department’s research culture. You will contribute to the delivery of BA programmes, including the BA English and the interdisciplinary BA Arts and Humanities, will contribute strongly to one or both of two successful MA programmes: the MA in Contemporary Literature and Culture and the MA in Cultural and Critical Studies, and supervise doctoral students. We are looking for candidates with particular expertise in Contemporary literature in English. The appointees will be expected to convene and teach modules in some or all of the following broad areas: Modernism; Post-war literature in English; Contemporary American fiction; science fiction; and critical theory. Appointees will additionally have the opportunity to develop new specialist modules over the course of the fixed term. Teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level is desirable. Experience of supervision of MA dissertations and/or final-year BA dissertations is also essential.

The appointees will have strong administrative track records and be competent to take on the convening of one of the MAs mentioned above.

Ideally, candidates should have completed or be near to completing a PhD or equivalent qualification, and show evidence of published research or exceptional potential. In addition, expertise in digital humanities is desirable, but not essential.

Salary: Grade 7 which is £35,353 rising to £40,460 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.These posts are full-time, 35 hours per week and fixed term for 3 years. The initial salary will be dependent on the skills and experience of the successful applicant. These appointments are subject to a probationary period of 3 years.
