CFP History of Art and Film postgraduates and Ideograms presents: Myths in Culture: An Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Symposium

Thursday 29th May, University of Leicester, UK

Keynote Speaker: Dr James Russell, De Montfort University

Myths form a fascinating part of culture, from ancient history through to modern popular culture. This symposium seeks to explore the content and function of these myths. This can apply to either myths in the sense of stories or narratives that are told and retold, or falsehoods and fallacies that obscure the truth. The organizers welcome papers from postgraduate students across a broad range of disciplines to present their research at the symposium, as well as joining more established scholars to discuss these ideas.

Topics may include but are not limited to:

  • Historical and/or religious myths
  • Myths in film, television, video games and other media
  • Myths in Literature and Graphic Novels
  • Science fiction and fantasy
  • Challenging popular beliefs
  • Archival work
  • Audience Studies

Please submit an abstract of 200 words for a 15 minute English language paper and a 100 word biography to mythsinculture@gmail.com by Monday April 28th 2014. This symposium is free for all delegates.
