CFP: The Voices of Post-Conflict (University of Edinburgh)

July 31, 2014

Deadline: July 31st 2014

The Voices of Post-Conflict is a student-led initiative from the University of Edinburgh aiming to engage cross-disciplinary approaches and to widen participation among diverse audiences to inspire reflection on the issue of gendered impacts of war, and the challenges faced by its survivors in the aftermath.

At this point, submissions are invited to their planned exhibition series in Edinburgh in September/October 2014. The project is putting together an exhibition exploring issues related to gender in war and aftermath, with a specific focus on women and young people. The exhibition is planned to feature in two locations in Edinburgh, first at the University of Edinburgh and second at Whitespace Gallery. The organisers are looking for submission material in the form of photos, quotes, short texts and prints of artwork exploring various topics related to gender, stigma and agency in war and aftermath.

This is an opportunity for people affected by war, and/or working in the field to spread awareness of the context of their work. The exhibition will be attended by academics and researchers from various fields, students, artists, activists, NGO representatives and the general public, and will serve as a backdrop for their events exploring and contextualizing gendered impacts of war. Events will include a panel discussion, talks and policy workshop. There is also a possibility that the exhibition will feature in different locations throughout 2014/2015.

Appropriateness of proposals will be evaluated on the fit with existing material, and contributions that include survivors’ own voices, or explores concepts of agency or stigma in the aftermath of conflict will be prioritized. Unsuccessful proposals for the photographic exhibition might still be contacted to feature on their blog. If you are unsure whether your material is appropriate for theirr purpose, thet still welcome your proposal and dialogue.

Every proposal should preferably include around 200-word statement regarding the content that might also be featured in the exhibition – as well as a release form with conditions.

To submit a proposal, please contact:voicesofpostconflict@gmail.com
