BrANCA Inaugural Reading Group (Manchester)

June 13, 2014

BrANCA Inaugural Reading Group

BrANCA’s inaugural Reading Group will be hosted by the University of Manchester on Friday, June 13th. We will convene at 1pm at the John Rylands Library (150 Deansgate, Manchester, M3 3EH) for an afternoon of convivial discussion on our selected texts and small-group tours of Americanist gems in JRL’s Special Collections led by curator Fran Baker, followed by drinks in a nearby pub. The Division of English, American Studies and Creative Writing at UoM has generously provided funds to reimburse travel costs for a limited number of postgraduates and/or non-permanent ECRs who wish to participate.

Theme: ‘Archival Pleasures’
Primary reading: Elizabeth Stoddard, The Morgesons (1862)
More information, including the list of secondary readings, can be downloaded at: http://www.branca.org.uk/uploads/3/8/3/4/3834380/branca_readinggroupjune14.pdf
