Call for Papers
Australia New Zealand American Studies Association (ANZASA) Conference
Australian Catholic University, North Sydney Campus, Sydney, Australia
27 June – 29 June 2017
The 2017 ANZASA conference will be held in North Sydney, hosted by the Australian Catholic University’s National School of Arts.
ANZASA is an association dedicated to the research of all aspects of U.S. culture, politics and society. Its biennial conferences are in keeping with this mission. They provide a forum for discussion across the broad spectrum of American studies, involving presenters from multiple disciplines.
In this tumultuous year for American society and its place in the world, papers are invited from those in American studies – and also from others considering the place of American history, culture, literature, politics or foreign policy in global or transnational contexts. Proposals for panels and individual 20-minute papers are welcome, as are submissions for other formats such as roundtables or interviews.
The keynote speakers for the conference are Professor Elizabeth Freeman (UC Davis), Professor Shane White (University of Sydney) and Professor Simon Jackman (US Studies Centre).
The conference will begin with a postgraduate event followed by a general reception at the Australian Catholic University in North Sydney on Tuesday 27 June. The conference will run for the following two days, with a dinner on Thursday 29 June. More information about keynote speakers and the conference’s social events will shortly appear on the conference website: http://www.acu.edu.au/anzasa
A limited number of bursaries funded by the U.S. Department of State will be offered for postgraduates or unwaged early career researchers wishing to travel to the conference from outside NSW. ANZASA will also fund two bursaries. Details of these bursaries and how to apply for them will appear shortly on the conference website.
Guidelines for submission of proposals – due Thursday 13 April 2017.
For individual papers: Please provide a title and abstract of no more than 150 words in total, followed by a biography of no more than 50 words.
For panels or roundtables: All members of the proposed panel or roundtables should submit their own title, abstract and biography on the same basis as above. In addition, they should indicate the title of the panel/roundtable and the names of the other proposed participants and chair.
