BLACK PANTHERS: VANGUARD OF THE REVOLUTION
Special Announcement: Official photographer and member of the Black Panther Party, Mohammed Mubarak will be joining Director Stanley Nelson for a Q&A following the screening.

Dir. Stanley Nelson Thursday 22nd Sept | 7.30pm Curzon Bloomsbury | £12.50 (£10 concessions)

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Black Panther’s member Mohammed Mubarak and the film’s director Stanley Nelson. Change was coming to America and the fault lines could no longer be ignored. Cities were burning and disputes raged over equality and civil rights. A new revolutionary culture was emerging and it sought to drastically transform the system. The Black Panther Party for Self Defence would, for a short time, put itself at the vanguard of that change. Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution tells the history of the movement for the first time with master documentarian Stanley Nelson weaving a treasure trove of rare archival footage with the voices of all the key players including police, FBI informants, journalists, white supporters and detractors, and Black Panthers themselves. Mohammed Mubarak, formerly known as Anthony Quisenberry, was born in Memphis, Tennessee and raised in Compton, CA. The late John Huggins recruited Mubarak to join the LA Chapter of the Black Panther Party in 1968 at the age of 16. He became the photographer for the Party, working alongside Elaine Brown, Geronimo “Ji Jagga” Pratt and the Freeman brothers.
