One of the ways we realize our global mission is by expanding opportunities for the study of historical American art in Europe. From 2009 to 2015, the Terra Foundation offered visiting professorships at the John F. Kennedy Institut, Freie Universität Berlin; Courtauld Institute of Art, in London; and Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art, in Paris. Current opportunities include:
- Terra Foundation Visiting Professorship at the John F. Kennedy Institut, Freie Universität Berlin: This eight-month-long visiting professorship focuses on the history of American art and visual culture. The visiting professor offers specialized courses, seminars, and lectures to students and participates in the larger academic community throughout their stay. For more information about deadlines, eligibility, application procedures, and funding, please visit the John F. Kennedy Institute, Freie Universität Berlin website. The 2015–16 Terra Foundation Visiting Professor at the John F. Kennedy Institut, Freie Universität Berlin is Heather A. Diack, Assistant Professor of Art History, University of Miami.
- Terra Foundation Visiting Professorship at the University of Oxford: Building on the university’s outstanding resources for the advanced study of art history and North American history, politics, literature, and culture, two one-year visiting professorships will be offered: the first for the 2016–17 academic year; the second for the 2017–18 academic year. The key objectives of the visiting professorships are to establish American art from the colonial period onwards as a new field of study for Oxford master’s students in art history; introduce the visual arts of the United States to undergraduate students in the history and art history departments; and provide new, global perspectives on American art to scholars and curators at Oxford and beyond. The visiting professors will become members of the History of Art Department and will also hold visiting fellowships at Worcester College. For more information, please visit the University of Oxford website.
