Art, Politics and Performance in the Black Atlantic 1789-2016 – April 14-15 2016

Performances:
Thursday 14 April    Tayo Aluko in the internationally acclaimed Call Mr Robeson about Paul Robeson’s art and politics.

Friday 15 April    Benbo Productions from Dublin’s Performance of Donal O’Kelly’s award-winning The Cambria about Frederick Douglass’s 1845 trip to Ireland

Keynote Speakers:
Professor George Lipsitz (University of California, Santa Barbara)
Professor Lisa Merrill (Hofstra University, NY)
Professor Barbara Tomlinson (University of California, Santa Barbara)
Professor Celeste-Marie Bernier (University of Nottingham)

Artist:  Jade Montserrat will present on “The Rainbow Tribe”, her exploration of Josephine Baker

Following on from its successful 2015 programme of events including symposia on The Black Atlantic and Northern BritainAfter Revolution: Versions and Re-visions of Haiti and Theatre and Performance, The Institute for Black Atlantic Studies (IBAR) at the University of Central Lancashire, Preston is excited to present this symposium which includes two highly acclaimed performances, contributions from artists as well as a dynamic academic programme. The event begins Thursday pm until Friday evening.  Full details will be available in March when booking opens.  There are still some places open for presenters.
