CALL FOR PAPERS:
ATDS EMERGING SCHOLAR AWARD
Submissions Due: March 1, 2016
Please note: Emerging scholars must not have previously presented at a major, national conference.
The American Theatre and Drama Society (ATDS), in coordination with the Black Theatre Association (BTA), is pleased to announce its eighth annual emerging scholars panel, “Curtains Up,” introducing new scholarship in Theatre and Drama of the Americas and Black Theatre and Drama. The organisers invite new scholars who have not yet presented at a major national conference to submit papers.
Papers submitted may treat any aspect of theatre and drama of the Americas, its varied histories, traditions, literatures, and performances within its cultural contexts. While all submissions are encouraged, the organisers particularly recommend submitting papers that reflect ATHE’s conference theme of Labor and Performance: How does performance help us understand bodies at work, both inside and outside of theatre? For a full description of this year’s theme, see http://www.athe.org/?page=2016_Conference.
(Please note that the Black Theater Association will also issue calls for emerging scholars for participation in this jointly coordinated debut panel.)
To be considered for this panel, please email the following two documents to Bradley Stephenson (email@example.com) by midnight eastern on March 1, 2016:
* a cover page with your name, paper title, affiliation and contact information
* your 8-10 page paper (no name or contact information on the document).
Please type “ATDS Emerging Scholars Submission” in the subject heading.
Essays will be evaluated on their originality, the quality of their writing and research, and their critical/theoretical sophistication. Submissions will be vetted by a committee of ATDS scholars. The selected author is expected to attend the ATHE conference in Chicago in August to present his or her paper. Winners will receive a year-long membership to ATDS, which includes subscription to the journal Theatre Annual: A Journal of Theatre and Performance of the Americas, as well as a $200 cash award. Successful applicants will be notified by April 15, 2016.
Contact Bradley Stephenson (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions.
