Broadcaster, author and award-winning Guardian columnist Gary Younge will be joined by Jo Littler and Eliane Glaser to reflect on the enduring concept of meritocracy and its place in American culture and politics. How does it shape the lived realities of millions of Americans? What limits are there on social mobility and how might meritocracy contribute to rather than challenge social stratification?

Gary Younge, The Guardian, author of Stranger in a Strange Land: Encounters in the Disunited States
Jo Littler, City University, author of forthcoming Against Meritocracy
Eliane Glaser, Canterbury, author of Get Real: How to See Through the Hype, Spin and Lies of Modern Life
