The Department of History at the University of Southampton invites applications to a Lectureship (Level 4) in Modern Global History (late Twentieth/Twenty-First Century) available from 1 January 2016 on a fixed-term basis, for two years in the first instance. We welcome applications that will enhance the Department’s existing strengths in Modern History (for further details, see our website at http://www.southampton.ac.uk/history/). The teaching consists of a first year module (War on Terror 1979-present), a second year double module (The Evolution of US Counterterrorism, 1979 – present), and a third year special subject on US Imperialism, 1941 – present.
You must have completed or be near to completing a PhD in Modern History and must show a developing profile of international excellence in research and publications, together with potential for attracting research funding. You will undertake research-led teaching at all levels of the Faculty’s History programmes, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the design and teaching of new modules in History, and you will play an active role in our administrative team.
You will be required to take up this post on 1 January 2016.
