Job: Fixed Term Lecturer (Teaching Focused) in Twentieth-Century American Literature and Culture (University of Manchester)

The Division of English, American Studies & Creative Writing at the University of Manchester invites applications for a 22-month temporary teaching-focused lectureship in Twentieth-Century American Literature and Culture (1.0 for the first 5 months, followed by 0.5 for the next 17 months). You will be able to teach a range of undergraduate courses in American Literature and Culture, with a particular focus on the Twentieth and Twenty-First Century. You will be expected to deliver the lectures and seminars for the first year courses Introduction to American Literature, Aspects of Contemporary America, and Introduction to American Studies. You will also contribute lectures and seminars to the second year courses Film Studies, and Jamestown to James Brown; devise and deliver a third year option; and supervise a number of third year dissertations.

You will have a completed PhD (or equivalent) in an aspect of 20th Century American Literature & Culture, a proven ability to provide high-quality research-informed teaching to a range of student groups at different levels, a proven ability to manage all aspects of course administration, including setting and marking assessed work and an ability to contribute to other related areas of teaching as agreed with the Head of English/Head of Division.

All non EU/EEA candidates must have valid immigration status and/or a UK visa valid for the duration of the contract in order to be considered for this appointment.
