The US-UK Fulbright Commission in association with the British Association of American Studies are calling for applicants for the 2017 Study of the US Institutes for Scholars. Six Institutes funded by the US Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs will run in June 2017 at various universities across the US.
Study of the US Institutes are six-week fully-funded intensive academic programmes with integrated study tours whose purpose is to provide foreign university faculty and other scholars the opportunity to deepen their understanding of US society, culture, and institutions. The ultimate goal is to strengthen curricula and to improve the quality of teaching about the US in academic institutions abroad. Institute themes for 2017 are:
- Institute on American Politics and Political Thought
- Institute on Contemporary American Literature
- Institute on Journalism and Media
- Institute on Religious Pluralism in the US
- Institute on US Culture and Society
- Institute on US Foreign Policy
Costs covered include: Programme administration, international travel, domestic travel and ground transportation in the US, book allowances, cultural outings, housing, subsistence, mailing and incidental allowances.
The US UK Fulbright Commission is able to nominate six UK Scholars from the UK competition to the ECA, one for each Institute. These selected scholars will then be entered into a global competition judged by ECA. Applications for the UK competition close at 9am on Monday 2 January 2017. Results of the global competition are released by ECA in April 2017.
Detailed information about each Institute and an application form can be found on the Fulbright website.
