The Department of History at the University of Sussex wishes to make a fixed-term appointment for three years in American History. We seek a scholar with research and teaching expertise in the history of the United States. Preference may be given to candidates with specialism in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
The successful candidate will possess a doctorate in History and have an established record of teaching excellence. They will have an emerging track record of research publications and be able to demonstrate the potential impact of their research outside of the academic profession. The person appointed will join a thriving, collegial department with a commitment to interdisciplinary study. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach courses both on the History BA and MA degrees and the interdisciplinary American Studies BA. Good communication skills, a passion for the subject area, and an ability to work productively as part of a friendly team-oriented department are essential for this position.
